DECEMBER 3, 2020
Good evening, Turners,
Your SCW board met this evening, with participation of our incoming 2021 members joining our 2020 members for a smooth transition. The minutes will be posted on our website in a few days. www.scwoodturners.org
Here's the lightning version:
1. We are cancelling our planned Sidewalk Sale on Dec 19-20. The COVID risk has escalated substantially, and it's getting worse daily. For our member safety, community safety, and likely compliance with governmental orders...we're scrubbing it.
Our members responded with fantastic volunteerism, and the core planning group put in some serious hours and lots of creativity. This effort and enthusiasm certainly demonstrates the friendship and spirit we share in our club, and it's a beautiful thing. And... to be really clear..the effort was not wasted. We'll likely do this later--when the virus has subsided, the days last longer, the daytime temperatures crest above the 50's, and when rain is not a threat to the event. We'll take what we've learned and adapt to what 2021 throws our way, and use our Fall, 2020, work as a jump start. Thank you!
2. Our monthly demo will be Dec 12, with Zoom opening at 8:30 AM. Roy Holmberg will take us step by step to complete a mixed media bowl: Hard Rock Maple and the Hot Steel Band. Don't miss this one!
The Zoom invitation should come within a day.
3. 2021 Dues will be due in January. They will stay at $50 for the year. You can pay the dues online through our website ( www.scwoodturners.org ), using the PayPal button on the opening screen on the home page. If you prefer to mail a check, Please make it to Santa Cruz Woodturners. Mail to Raf Strudley, Treasurer, SCW. 8195 Hihn Road, Ben Lomond, CA 95005.
Your board wants you to know we don't take your dues for granted. In addition to 6 "homegrown" monthly demonstrations of techniques, like the one above, we sponsor 6 remote professional demonstrations at no added cost to our members...and we bring it to your home computer. (These cost $10-$30 per person when purchased individually...without the dialogue.) We have provided refreshments and, back in September, a box lunch in the rare situation we could meet in person. We have a hotline for available downed wood, and abundant advice for members who want help to solve a problem or master a new technique. We try hard to return value for that $4.20 a month! Mostly, though, we treasure the companionship, and we look forward to a year where we can keep learning and smiling.
Thanks,
Wells Shoemaker
